Logging In: Microsoft Shared Authentication
Important Note: While Microsoft Shared Authentication currently utilizes Microsoft accounts, support for non-Microsoft user accounts is on the horizon! Your dedicated representative will be happy to assist you in obtaining access before providing you with a file or web address in step one.
Logging into the Website Interface
This section provides step-by-step instructions for accessing your product instance's website using this authentication method, if enabled on your instance. Whether it's your first time logging in with a Microsoft account or utilizing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), we'll guide you through the process. Let's begin.
- Navigate to your product instance's website URL (e.g., Ontario, Diligent, Catalyst, Compass, etc.). This will be provided by someone from our team.
- If this is your first login with a Microsoft account, you'll be prompted to enter your Microsoft credentials, such as your Microsoft Outlook or corporate work email address.
- You’ll be prompted to select your account, to choose a new account, and then enter your password. This is the same password you use to login to Windows or Outlook.
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will then trigger an authentication request on your registered device, likely the Windows Authenticator app on your smartphone. You may also choose not to use the Windows Authenticator app, opting to send a text message or email to yourself to confirm your identity. Here are two examples of what you might see:
- Windows Authenticator App: After entering your password on the login screen, you'll receive a notification on your phone from the Microsoft Authenticator app. The notification will ask you to approve the login attempt.
- Text Message or Email Confirmation: If you opted for text message or email verification, you'll receive a text message or email with a unique code. Enter that code on the login screen to verify your identity.
- Windows Authenticator App: After entering your password on the login screen, you'll receive a notification on your phone from the Microsoft Authenticator app. The notification will ask you to approve the login attempt.
- Upon successful authentication, you'll be logged in and won't need to re-enter credentials unless you log out or clear your browsing data.
Logging into Excel Cube Files, Datapacks, and Data Schedules
Logging into your EBM-connected Excel files works almost identically to logging into the web interface. There are always some exceptions, especially if using older code, but generally speaking it should work the same.
- Open the Excel file, whether downloaded from the website or another location.
- Follow the prompts to log in using your credentials (Microsoft account or alternative method confirmed by your representative).
- If you're already logged in to your Microsoft account (or your designated alternative), simply select the appropriate account for seamless login.
- Complete the Multi-Factor Authentication process to finalize login. Subsequent files within the same session will remember your login details.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Ensure you have the latest version of the Windows Authenticator app (or your designated alternative) installed on your smartphone for a smooth MFA experience.
- If you experience login issues, clear your browser's cache and cookies before retrying.
- For complex login issues, contact our support team for assistance. They may need to involve your corporate IT team for assistance.
Microsoft Shared Authentication, paired with the Windows Authenticator app (or alternative methods for non-Microsoft accounts), makes accessing your EBM website or programs both secure and effortless. Our support team is always available to assist you if you encounter any difficulties.
